Paul A. Matiasic

A native of the Bay Area, Paul was born in San Francisco and attended St. Ignatius College Preparatory before matriculating at Santa Clara University, where he earned a degree in Political Science. Thereafter, Paul earned his Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University School of Law and studied International and European Union law at Oxford University, where he placed first in his class. At Pepperdine, Paul was on the Dean's List and received several Dean's Awards. In addition, he served as President of the student body, was a student mentor, participated in moot court competitions, was listed in the Who's Who Among American Law Students publication, and was a volunteer at the Union Rescue Mission Legal Clinic located on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles. While in law school, Paul clerked for the venerable San Francisco law firm, Walkup, Melodia, Kelly, Wecht. & Schoenberger.

Prior to founding Matiasic Roth & Johnson LLP, Paul practiced at one of the five largest law firms in California in the areas of complex tort and personal injury litigation, including products liability, commercial liability, and wrongful death actions. Paul has been involved in some of the most high profile and complex civil cases in the state over the past decade. He was trial counsel in one of the first clergy sexual abuse cases to go to trial in the last ten years and was primarily responsible for handling over fifteen coordinated abuse cases. Paul was also trial counsel in a recent high stakes case involving fraud and breach of contract resulting in a very favorable jury verdict for his client.

In addition to his trial work, Paul has handled a variety of cases before the California Court of Appeal and California Supreme Court, including successfully obtaining a Writ of Mandate in a complex case involving First Amendment and Equal Protection rights.

Paul is an active member of the American Bar Association, Litigation and Tort and Insurance Practice Sections and the Italian American Lawyers Association. He was recently recognized in Madison Who's Who Among American Lawyers. He is admitted to practice before all courts in the State of California, the Northern and Central United States District Courts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

David V. Roth

David V. Roth has extensive experience in the prosecution and defense of a wide range of civil matters including claims of wrongful death, brain injury, catastrophic orthopedic injuries, and food borne illnesses.  He has litigated and tried matters involving construction site injuries, manufacturing and warehouse accidents, catastrophic fire and water loss incidents, auto accidents, toxic tort injuries, land disputes, insurance coverage disputes, and outbreaks of food borne illnesses.

Mr. Roth began his career in asbestos litigation.  In late 1999 he helped start the firm of Cholakian & Associates.  In 2002, he joined the national firm of Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith and was elevated to Partner in 2003.

David V. Roth was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA.  He moved to Northern California to attend the University of California at Santa Cruz from where he studied Politics and Theatre.  He received a B.A. in 1992.  He received his law degree from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1997.  He was honored at graduation for his community service and received a certificate in litigation.   He remains active with his law school volunteering for the Appellate Advocacy and Mock Trial programs at Golden Gate.  Mr. Roth lives in Concord and serves clients throughout the Bay Area including Contra Costa County.

Scott L. Johnson

Mr. Johnson was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and raised in California’s Central Valley. He completed his undergraduate education at California State University at Stanislaus, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree, with honors, in 1993.  His legal education was obtained at Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, where his studies focused on civil litigation.

After graduation from law school in 1996, Mr. Johnson joined the Law Offices of Machado & Cousins in Modesto, California. While working at this civil litigation boutique, Mr. Johnson had the opportunity early in his career to try several cases to verdict.  In 1998, just two years removed from law school, Mr. Johnson tried his first jury trial to verdict as lead trial counsel. The result was a six-figure judgment against a hospital for premises liability where the settlement offer going into trial by the hospital was a waiver of costs.

In 1999, Mr. Johnson returned to the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to co-founding Matiasic Roth & Johnson, LLP, Mr. Johnson was a partner with the fifth largest law firm in California. Mr. Johnson's practice is broad-based, with extensive experience in personal injury, wrongful death, professional liability, public entity liability, and FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) claims. Mr. Johnson has tried several cases to verdict in both State and Federal Courts for plaintiffs and defendants with successful results. Additionally, Mr. Johnson was been involved in several post-trial appeals in both State and Federal Courts Mr. Johnson is a member of the State Bar of California, American Bar Association, Consumer Attorneys of California, and the Asian American Bar Association.
