Religious Litigation Lawyers
Religious institutions and related entities occupy a special place in our society and under our laws. The Establishment and Free Exercise Clauses of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution are among the most important freedoms bestowed upon our citizenry. Litigating a case on behalf of a religious entity requires a sophistication in the special protections afforded religious institutions under both federal and state law, including the rather esoteric constitutional implications of cases involving religious entities.
Our lawyers have played a significant role in some of the most high profile religious entity cases in the state over the last five years, including serving as trial counsel in the first major clergy abuse case to go to trial in Alameda County. Our lawyers had a pivotal role in the handling and administration of over twenty different coordinated clergy abuse case pending throughout the state. In addition to our trial work, our attorneys have been highly successful in handling religious entity cases at the appellate level, including recently obtaining a Writ of Mandate on behalf a client in the First District Court of Appeal in San Francisco. Our attorneys have represented a wide array of religious organizations including Roman Catholic Dioceses and Religious Orders, divisions of the United Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church, Unitarian Church, Lutheran Church, and other related organizations.
